Fiction Projects

In the earliest days of my writing career, I focused on fiction. I practiced the craft by working with short stories, juvenile picture books, and middle-grade fiction. I had several manuscripts in circulation when my life circumstances changed, and I made the switch to non-fiction.

Although I began writing non-fiction for a variety of practical reasons, I found it engaging. There’s a distinct challenge in taking an obscure subject and making it understandable to a wider audience. I stuck with non-fiction for almost twenty years, but periodically had to write a bit of fiction just to satisfy my inner storyteller.

Life has shifted once again, and I have been able to create new space for fiction. I’ve dusted off a few old manuscripts and have begun new ones. I’m thrilled to be opening this door once again, but I find that my writing voice has changed over the years, and what I want to write has also changed. I’m not quite starting from square one, but it will take awhile to settle into the old rhythm and cadence of fictional prose. I’m part of a local critique group, the Richmond Writers, as well as a regional group, the James River Writers, and am thoroughly enjoying my re-immersion in fiction.

I look forward to sharing the journey back into story, and I’ll certainly post when there’s news to share.

Enjoy!
